Visit the Kankberg gold & tellurium Mine
Kankberg is a gold and tellurium mine. It was reopened in 2012 after being closed down in the 1990s, which is when gold and tellurium were discovered here. 250 kg of gold was produced during the first year. Kankberg is today 500m deep. The cut-and-fill method is used here and granite is used as the backfil material. The mine employs about 80 people and 20 contractors. The Kankberg mine is located northeast of Skellefteå, a 35 km bus journey.
