Anu Martikainen

Dr. Anu Martikainen holds a Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology in Finland. She has about 20 years of experience within mine ventilation, health and safety, mine planning, and project management. In Finland, she has worked extensively in planning and analyzing mine ventilation systems for several underground mines. Dr. Martikainen has also worked for the NIOSH Pittsburgh Research Laboratory as a Research Engineer and a Principal Investigator. Currently, Dr. Martikainen works as a Senior Research Engineer for Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag (LKAB) in Sweden. In this position, she is responsible for long-term practical and strategic ventilation planning for all LKAB mines. She is the leader of the Ventilation Demands at Depth -project in the Main Mine Design umbrella project, with the goal of opening new main levels in Kiruna and Malmberget mines, and taking Svappavaara mine underground, while considering new technologies, sustainability, and feasibility.
